GLP-1 Side Effects
Headache
On Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro & Zepbound
When it happens
Commonly occurs in the first 24–48 hours post-injection; also common with reduced caloric intake
Typical peak window
Day 1–3 after injection
How long it lasts
Usually resolves as the dose stabilizes. Often tied to dehydration or reduced caloric intake rather than direct drug effect.
What helps
- •Hydration first — many GLP-1 headaches are dehydration headaches from reduced fluid intake
- •Make sure you are consuming adequate electrolytes, especially sodium and potassium
- •Over-the-counter pain relievers (acetaminophen, ibuprofen) are fine for occasional use
- •Track whether headaches consistently appear on Day 1–2 post-injection — if so, schedule injection timing accordingly
Dose context
Headaches are reported by about 14% of GLP-1 users. They are almost always benign and improve within the first few months.
When to contact your provider
Sudden severe headache unlike any you've had before, or headache with visual changes or neck stiffness.
