GLP-1 Side Effects
Vomiting
On Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro & Zepbound
When it happens
Typically follows the nausea pattern — highest in first 2–3 days post-injection
Typical peak window
Day 1–3 after injection
How long it lasts
Usually resolves with dose stabilization. Less common than nausea; about 24% of semaglutide users experience it.
What helps
- •Same dietary adjustments as nausea — smaller, lower-fat meals
- •If vomiting occurs within 30 minutes of eating, consider switching to liquids for a few hours
- •Stay hydrated with small, frequent sips — electrolyte drinks can help
- •Avoid strong food smells during the peak window if they trigger you
- •Ask your provider about anti-nausea medication (ondansetron/Zofran is commonly prescribed)
Dose context
Vomiting is more common during initial dose escalation and tends to decrease substantially once you stabilize at a dose for 4+ weeks.
When to contact your provider
Any vomiting that prevents normal fluid intake, or if you notice blood. Do not inject your next dose while vomiting — contact your provider.
